  • Equal Education Partners is proud to be working with the University of Florida to support the delivery of the University of Florida in Wales 2026 program, an immersive study abroad experience shaped around Wales’s legal, political and cultural landscape.

The program, developed in partnership with Dr Matthew Jones, will give University of Florida students the opportunity to live and learn in Wales combining academic learning with practical experiences and networking opportunities.

Students will earn UF academic credits while taking part in a varied program that includes UF academic writing classes, volunteering and professional experience connected to the legal sector. They will also be introduced to Welsh culture and history through visits to key landmarks, alongside networking opportunities with law firms and the Welsh Government.

Connecting academic study with practical experience

A key element of the program is its focus on law, justice and civic life. Students will gain insight into the justice system through activities connected to the charity Support Through Court, Courts in Action and The Justice Gap.

Volunteering with Support Through Court, students will learn about the challenges faced by people who represent themselves in civil and family courts. Support Through Court provides free, independent and confidential assistance to people navigating these settings and the program will give students the opportunity to develop practical skills while gaining a deeper understanding of access to justice.

Students will contribute articles to The Justice Gap, an online magazine covering law and justice in collaboration with Cardiff University. As part of this element, students will contribute to the magazine’s reporting on legal and social justice issues.

The program will also introduce students to Wales’s political institutions and professional networks. Scheduled activity includes visits to the Senedd and Welsh Government, as well as legal networking opportunities with prominent law firms Hugh James and Blake Morgan.

Alongside academic and professional learning, students will experience Welsh culture, history and landscapes. The itinerary includes visits to Big Pit National Coal Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that offers insight into Wales’s industrial past, and Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, one of Wales’s most recognised natural landscapes.

Owen Evans, Managing Director at Equal Education Partners, said:

“Programs like University of Florida in Wales show the value of immersive study abroad opportunities. UF’s pre-law students are gaining unparalleled practical insights and experience from this innovative program, which puts them in a strong position for the highly competitive world of graduate law school. It’s an honour to be able to put on such an exciting program in collaboration with partners here in Cardiff.”

Dr Matthew Jones, Assistant Instructional Professor in the University Writing Program at the University of Florida, said:

“The University of Florida in Wales program gives students the kind of study abroad experience that can genuinely shape their futures. Personally, I couldn’t think of a better setting for this type of programme than Wales. The unique features such as the legal-political context and devolved institutions as well as its own distinct culture and language make it a uniquely rich place for students to think critically about law, identity, public service and civic life.

For the UF pre-law students themselves, we’ve built a robust and challenging programme that goes far beyond a traditional classroom setting and will provide them with the confidence needed to take the next step towards graduate law school and future legal careers.

I’m grateful to Equal Education Partners and our Welsh partners for helping bring this program to life.”
